The most valuable thing Norm Zeigler's Fly Shop provides our customers is information. We give you the salient details you need about fishing locations, equipment, flies, lures, bait, and techniques so that you can have an outstanding angling experience on our paradise island. We do not believe in "secret" fishing spots.
We are a full-service fly shop featuring the highest quality product and equipment lines, including Sage, Redington, Rio, Simms, Umpqua, Wapsi, Mustad, and others. Many of our flies are locally tied by anglers who know intimately our local fish and waters and the most effective patterns. We also offer an extensive selection of fly tying materials and tools. Our clothing line includes top-quality fishing shirts -- both short- and long-sleeve -- quick-drying convertible pants and shorts, and logo T-shirts.
We also sell spinning rods, lures, and bait.
We ship our products to customers anywhere in the United States. Shipping costs vary according to weight and distance. Orders may be placed by phone with a credit card or by mail with a check.
Guided Charters -- We book guided fly fishing charters with a highly experienced staff of top-notch local guides. All of our guides are consummate professionals dedicated to providing our clients with the world-class angling experience available on hundreds of square miles of local waters. Our guides cater to fly fishers of all skill levels and will provide instruction upon request.
Fishing is from flats boats or bay boats, mostly in the backwater areas around and near Sanibel Island, including Pine Island Sound, the lower Caloosahatchee River, Charlotte Harbor, Estero Bay, San Carlos Bay, and the J.N "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge.

For those anglers who do not have their own equipment, our guides provide a full range of fly fishing and spinning tackle, as well as flies, lures, and bait. Clients are responsible for providing their own food, drinks, sun screen lotion, hats, and extra clothing.
The most popular quarry for charter clients are the big four: snook, tarpon, redfish, and seatrout
In addition to guiding fly fishers of all skill levels, our guiding staff is also pleased to host spin and bait fishers.

Charter Prices -- 1/2 day charter (4 hours) -- $400
3/4 day charter (6 hours) -- $500
All-day charter (8 hours) -- $600
A few of our guides can accommodate up to four anglers but most of them have a maximum limit of three anglers per boat. For fly fishing charters we recommend no more than two anglers per boat.
We also set up shore guiding/instructional outings. The fee is $50 per hour, with a two-hour minimum. Our shore guides will instruct you in the techniques and equipment necessary to be successful in fishing from our many miles of shoreline.
A 10 percent deposit -- credit card or cash -- is required for all charter bookings. Clients then pay the balance of the cost to the captain -- in cash or travelers checks -- on the day of the trip.
Anglers wishing to book charters can stop in at our shop, 2242 Periwinkle Way, Unit No. 1, Sanibel, FL 33957. We also book charters via credit card over the telephone: 239-472-6868.
At certain times of year, especially during the height of the tarpon season (roughly from May 15 to July 15), bookings increase dramatically. During these times it is best to book at least a few weeks ahead. However, some captains may have open days on short notice. It is best to check with us.

There is no doubt about the number one fly for Sanibel Island and the surrounding waters. It is Norm's Crystal Schminnow (c), created by Norm Zeigler in 1995.

The Schminnow was conceived as a pattern for sight fishing for snook but it has also proved to be highly effective at catching all of the area's game fish -- including juvenile tarpon -- under a wide variety of conditions. It has caught 52 species in fresh and salt water.

Good Tarpon flies include the Bunnytail Crab, Tarpon Snake, Purple Death and Chartreuse Tarpon Toad.
